• Native to tropical eastern Africa, the Cassia Popcorn is a semi-deciduous, multi-branching small tree that grows up to 25’; however, if grown as an annual it can remain as small as 6’-10’ tall. The rapid growth and the habit of flowering as a small tree yields erect axillary racemes with 20-30 rounded flower buds which subtly smell like buttered popcorn when rubbed. Cassia Popcorn is often used in landscape design as an accent of tropical effect and as a “thriller” in a container, because the large, feathery foliage contrast nicely with other dark, large leaves.
